Albany supplied it's gorgeous (if not a little hotter than usual) weather for all to enjoy the 2019 Kalgan Stampede. #kalganstampede
This is the second year of this event running in Albany and it has gone from a 3 day event to a 2 day event. The last day is an approx. 15km trail ride, it's focus is obviously not for spectators but for riders to enjoy the picturesque Albany.
The main events were held on the Saturday. The usual Rodeo categories were represented - steer undecorating, broncs (bareback & saddle), bull riding, barrels and more. This event catered for the real novices to those experts that follow the rodeo circut. The barrel riding had competitors from a small boy on a shetland who trotted the course to those pelting around to do the barrels in just over 16 seconds.
I was impressed by the number of spectators that turned up to offer support to the organizers and competitors. It seemed half of Albany was there, with the majority huddled in the licenced area so they could enjoy various beverages including those from the local brewery (Wilson's Brewery). #wilsonsbrewery
It was a great day out for everybody. But word for the wise, take a seat, wear a hat and slap on sunscreen and a shirt. I dressed for the occassion, heat and sun so I am not sunburned, but by looking at some of the spectators there will be some lobsters around today. We didn't take a seat so we had to make do sitting on the grass. It was romantic sitting with my man on the grass but my aging body would have preferred a seat. #nottwentyanymore
